Advice for off piste & ski touring

Preparation, equipment and safety

Are you dreaming of chasing powder after a large dump of snow? Here are some tips.

  • Make sure you have the appropriate off-piste safety equipment with you (transceiver, shovel and probe as a minimum) and know how to use it
  • You might also want an ABS bag, freeride or ski touring skis, skins for your skis, etc
  • A helmet is strongly recommended
  • Know when to call off an off piste outing (for example weather and/or avalanche conditions)
  • Off piste safety equipment is offered free of charge if you book a group off piste outing with ESF
Do not go out alone - have a mountain professional with you. Our instructors will help you find the best spots to enjoy safely.
